Cultivate:
Evolving Your Poi Practice
Course
Overview |
 |
 |
Do you feel like you know some poi moves but don't know what
to do with them? Do you find you can't remember what move to do
next? Do you find that you're always doing the moves you like
the most rather than growing in your skills? Are you uncertain
how to practice to acquire more skills?
Do you feel you're rigid when you're spinning your poi and don't
move around enough? Do you experience your practice as stalled
and uninteresting? Do you find yourself uninspired to drill
new moves and transitions? Do you wish you could flow more between
moves? Do you find you lack confidence in your poi skills? Have
you ever finished a performance only to say, "I wish I
had remembered that move!" Are you looking to be more self
expressed with your poi performances? Have you ever felt like
you were tripping over your own feet?
If you answered yes to any of these questions, then this workshop
is for
you! Join us for this workshop, Cultivate: Evolving Your Poi
Practice, where you will learn:
- how to integrate moves more rapidly
- how to generate a more complex performance for your audience
- how to expand your repertoire
- to deepen your understanding of how moves and transitions
relate to each other
- to explore poi as an exploration of the mind, body and sprit
with the intention of creating more fun
- how to create a lasting practice to keep you from boredom
while propelling your skills
This workshop is open to beginner* through professional poi artists
and will help you in your practice no matter what your skill level.
During this class, students will explore the relationship between
drills, moves and transitions to deepen their poi practice. Student
will each receive their own set of flash cards (theirs to keep
as part of the tuition of the class) to be used during a series
of exercises we will explore as a group. Participants will then
work individually, applying the concepts and principles of the
practice to their current level of development and explore how
the practice will work most effectively for them.
