Course
Overview |

 |
The Partner Staff class instructs students in the art of moving
in close proximity to another staffer while sharing a single long
staff. Utilizing principles of contact improv dance, the class
focuses on interactions between the dancers that are dynamic and
spontaneous yet harmonious. The material covered includes handoff
techniques, methods for creating common dialogue amongst performers,
and ways of organically developing compelling performances.
Each of the classes meets for 80 minutes and is divided into
the following class structure:
- 15 min: Warm up, review, stretching
- 60 min: new move clinic, individual work, drills, practice
- 5 min: review, cool down
This 4 class series focuses on building rapport between you,
your partner and the one staff you share. We will emphasize safety
and offer techniques to prevent muscle strain and injury. At the
same time, the exercises in this class will offer new concepts
that assist in expanding your range of motion and self expression
while working with a partner in a small space.
Prerequisite
Students will need to
have completed the Beginner Staff
and Long Staff classes or demonstrate
