Congratulations to the 1000th fire dancing student at Temple of Poi -- Nicole Fox, Miss San Jose 2007. Nicole will takes the stage in the Miss California Pageant where her talent will be a beautifully choreographed fire poi routine. Wish her luck as she competes June 27-30, 2007 in Fresno, California.
"With so many competitors focused on more traditional talents like singing opera and playing piano, we're really hoping this piece will help Nicole stand out in the crowd," said Temple of Poi founder, Isa Isaacs.
Miss San Jose is making a bold statement by choosing this talent for her entry in the Miss California Pageant. "I'm hoping to place in the top 10 so I get to perform it twice on stage," said Nicole who came to Temple of Poi to augment her skills for the Miss California Pageant.
The event will take place in Fresno, California the last weekend of June where Isa and Nicole both hope Nicole advances to the finals as well as winning the Preliminary Talent competition.
Isa, or "GlitterGirl" as she is known to her peers, founded San Francisco based Temple Of Poi in 2002 to teach people how to spin the flaming poi as a way of unifying their body, mind, and spirit, combining dance, self-expression, and physical vitality. Students support their physical practice through mind expanding concepts delivered as 3 principles reverently called "The Flowology Mindset™.” “We’re facilitating an experience wherein practitioners discover how to free their creative juices and embody them through movement and we start by encouraging people to create the mindset that promotes fun,” said Isa.
Temple Of Poi dancers have wowed audiences at parties, corporate events, and community gatherings throughout Northern California, with Isa herself being flown out to perform across the country. In the 5 years since starting the school, over 1000 students have learned the art of fire dancing at Temple of Poi and thousands more worldwide share this opportunity through detailed online video courses on the Temple of Poi website. "We're proud to have Nicole as our 1000th student and wish her much luck in the 2007 Miss California Pageant."
