Poilates™ I


Course Overview

This 80 minutes class is designed for people looking to create or augment their full body fitness program. Each session focuses on opening the mind and body to offer a comprehensive workout for people at any fitness level.

The class opens with a short meditation to help students relax and get centered in their bodies, letting go of all the stress and tension of their day. Students will focus on their breathing and then connect with their core muscles using traditional Pilates techniques. Students will then move through Yoga inspired stretches and asanas, using Poilates™ drills to assist in developing greater flexibility, muscle tone and movement generated from core conditioning.

Poilates™ shares the breathing and movement principals of singing, Pilates, Yoga and other practices. It combines these traditional forms with poi as an external prop to assist students in understanding how to generate full body movements from their transverse abdominus (TVA) and other core muscles. Working with the poi creates an opportunity for students to explore a fun workout.

Weather the student is new to poi or pilates or an experienced practitioner of either discipline, this class will develop and deepen their relationship to their center on a physical and mental level. Experienced Pilates practitioners can expect this fun class to expand help them create movement through their arms from their center as a means of deepening their current practice while experienced poi artists will support their poi skills by grounding their movements in their increases awareness and strength. Individuals new to poi and Pilates will find this class to be a unique way of supporting a full body fitness program

To maximize the value of these classes, class size in our San Francisco studio is small (10 or less) and each student receives individual focus from the instructors. Each of the classes meets for 80 minutes.

Prerequisites

Must bring your own yoga mat.

Class Information

Tuition is $25 for single session or $100 for 5 sessions when purchased in advance -- sessions must be used in 60 days from date of purchase.
