Poi Lessons: Choreography

Choreography IA: Rhythm in Combos

Choreography IB: Out of the Box I

Choreography IIA: Dance Transitions II

During this four-week series, artists will learn a piece of choreography using one or more moves from different concentrations. After learning this choreography, artists then practice the sequence using different styles of music to explore working with rhythm and flow of a sequence. Each class will include drills of the combo to help artists have access to the combo as they might with a move. During this four-week series focuses on 180 and 360 degree turns between moves. As artists enhance existing turning skills and learn new turn combinations, they will explore the concept of "plane shifting through axis rotation" as a means to create a more effective performance. "Plane shifting through axis rotation" -- or spinning "Out of the Box" is the process of moving the relative positions of the "box" (front, back, floor, ceiling and side planes) to different locations in relation to the fixed environment in which artists are performing -- all while flowing between moves. For students who have taken two or more of the Polyrhythmic Combos, Multibeat Combos, Dance Flair Combos , Split Direction Combos , Behind the Back Combos or Wallplanes Combos classes (or have equivalent knowledge), this 4 week class will help you incorporate the new combinations and moves from multiple concentrations into one seamless performance by working on effectively transitioning between these moves.

Testimonials

"Each time I take a class, my skill level and sense of flow increases dramatically. Isa also applies, with some
magic glitter perhaps, the principles of flow and poi to the default world."
