Hoop-ercise(tm)

Course Overview

this is an intermediate class

Are you looking to have fun while you strengthen your body, tone your muscles and improve your balance? This class offers you a series of exercises focused on the conscious use of energy to improve your ability to move your body as well as develop your overall body awareness. Using fundamental Yoga principals, each session will focus on various drills designed to use different size hoops in unique and interesting ways to help you:

  • tone arms and legs
  • stretch your muscles
  • develop increased balance
  • develop greater control
  • and more

To maximize the value of these classes, class size is small and each student receives individual focus from the instructors. Each of the classes meets for 80 minutes and includes the following:

  • warm up including balance, toning and strength exercises
  • intensive toning, strengthen and balance drills
  • Learning new moves and perfecting techniques
  • Closing review, cool down

This course is for beginning hoopers on up who wish to workout and have fun at the same time while working on interesting ways of exploring the hoop as a flow tool.

Prerequisite

Students should be able to maintain the hoop around their waist for at least 2 minutes. Students need not know any tricks with the hoop or yoga to feel comfortable in this class.

Testimonials

"As a complete hooping novice, I was timid about going into a class environment. The Temple of Poi's reputation of being the Bay Area's hotbed of firedance, poi and other flow arts further intimidated me. Looking back, this was foolish and unnecessary.
Classes are tailored for each individual's level and the kind and supportive environment not only encourages learning, but inspires how I treat myself in other non-hooping areas of my life. Instruction happens on two distinct levels: movements are conceptually broken down into its structural parts and a go-for-it, trial-and-error, playful atmosphere of learning by doing. I leave inspired by myself, by fellow classmates and Isa, the instructor."
