GlitterGirl's Traveling Poi Fire Dancing Twirling, Spinning and Performance Boot Camp - Chicago 2009 - Sold Out!
Join GlitterGirl when she takes her poi instruction on the road for this immersion into the world of poi spinning. As long as you have some poi spinning skill and can do a basic figure 8, you'll get something out of this workshop. It's recommended that you at least have the basic weave, butterfly and pinwheel down if you take the full day workshop or have an interest in developing your performance for the third part only.
This program is a 5 part series consisting of four 75 minute sessions and one 2 hour session delivered over the course of one day. The Boot Camp meets from 10 am to 7 pm on Saturday, May 16, 2009 in Chicago, Il. This Boot Camp will be held at the Catalyst space in Chicago. Catalyst is located at 3847 W. North Ave (above the Family Dollar) in Chicago, IL. 60647
The class schedule follows:
Session 1: Flowers and Wall Plane movements: This session will drill and discuss the principles of flowers including all 16 basic varieties of flowers. We'll work with various numbers of petals in multiple directions. We'll also cover barrel rolls and front plane flower work.
Session 2: Behind the Back: This session will focus on concepts related to:
- crossers
- hug turn arounds
- melt downs/mind melds
- behind the back weave
- waist wrap
- turning from behind the back
- stalls behind the back
- back plane flowers
- behind the back buzzsaw
Session 3: Flow, Transitions, Combos and Contrast: Just because you know a move, doesn't mean you know how to incorporate the move into your spinning and performance. This session focuses on connecting moves together, creating contrast in the patterns, flowing with more ease and building combinations that allow you to more easily expand your spinning style.
Session 4: Anti-Spin Movement: Building on the concepts from the earlier flower session, this session will cover these patterns:
- 4 petal antispin flowers, same direction
- 4 petal antispin flowers, split direction
- hybrids
- front plane antispin flowers with extensions
- antispin buzzsaws
- antispin flower turns
- and more...
Session 5: Performance Workshop: No matter what level of skill you're at, this workshop will assist you in taking your performance to the next level. During this workshop we'll answer deeply personal questions in the workbooks provided and discuss various means of dealing with our fear and anxiety. Through lottery, we will also allow 2-4 artists to perform. Those not performing will give direct feedback to the performers, so come prepared to give a 90 second performance (freestyle or choreographed) if you want feedback and you are selected in the lottery.
