As we continue with our artist profiles for the Temple of Poi 2009 Fire Dancing Expo & 7 Year Anniversary, we spotlight Rich Porter who will be performing with Josh as Isopop.
In the spring of 2007, Rich began hooping with Fluid Lüminescence Fire Arts Collective in San Luis Obispo, CA. His focus on the technical aspects of hooping are informed by his background in architecture.
This is evident in both his style and theories which emphasize the hoop’s relationship to space over the hoop’s relationship with the body. Since moving to San Francisco he has been teaching workshops under the name Isopop.
In 2009, he is traveling the United States teaching at HoopConvergence, Hoop Camp, the Northwest Hoop gathering, FireDrums and other spinning events. Find out more about Rich on Twitter or FaceBook.
