As we continue with our artist profiles for the Temple of Poi 2009 Fire Dancing Expo & 7 Year Anniversary, we spotlight our opening artist, Nick Griffin.

Nick Griffin, artist performing in Temple of Poi 2009 Fire Dancing ExpoAt an early age Nick knew he wanted to dance and perform.  Nick spent his childhood idolizing the likes of Janet and Michael Jackson, and of course Paula Abdul.  After taking dance classes on and off over the years, Nick taught himself how to play with fire and has incorporated his dance training with his self-taught poi tricks.  Nick cofounded a Sonoma County based fire-dancing troupe known as Ignite, who performed at various expositions in Petaluma, CA and even at children’s birthday parties.

After Ignite, Nick performed several years at Burning Man, Decompression SF, at a Bastille Day celebration in Marin County, Jewels In Nick Griffin, artist performing in Temple of Poi 2009 Fire Dancing ExpoThe Square in SF, and for the annual SF Food Bank canned food drive in 2008.  Currently Nick resides in Los Angeles where he has been fortunate to take classes from a variety of choreographers, including legendary dancer/choreographer Brian Friedman.  Nick loves to combine his unique flavor of choreography with his smooth poi moves to create an energetic and unforgettable performance each time he hits the stage!
