How much should I get paid?

As much as people will pay you. Professional solo artists get $150+ for a single 10-15 minute set. What you're worth depends on what tools you know, how well you use them, the overall performance presence you bring to the art and how well you can market yourself.

How do I get gigs?

The best way to start out is to talk to everyone you know and tell them what you do. Leave business cards where ever you go; suggest a performance at events you know friends are throwing; register to agencies who promote fire artists, including the new Temple of Poi Artists section; advertise on the mailing lists you can share that information on; and look for postings on the internet (Tribe is an excellent place to look) where gig opportunities appear.

How do I get insurance?

Clowns of the US will insure fire performers for a little under $200 a year. They are the only underwriters we are aware of in North America at this time.

"It's funny, but after only 5 classes, I feel part of a community in some ways."
