I'm new and I don't know anyone. Won't I feel
like an outsider?
I'm haven't taken any classes yet but I'm interested
in the community. Is that okay?
How can I meet community members?
I've played with other fire artists and noticed
a lot of ego elsewhere, but heard you guys aren't like that. Why
is that?

Starting in anything new can often
be both exciting and intimidating, often leaving people who are
new to the experience feeling one step behind or on the fringes.
Temple of Poi artists gather for fun, friendship and fire and
are generally present to the challenges of being new to the community,
as the Temple of Poi community itself is constantly in flux. The
community as a whole is inclusive, welcoming, friendly and the
artists are very willing to share their knowledge as much as is
reasonable.

Yes! Temple of Poi is both a community and a school.
People are welcome to participate in community events only, classes
only and both as they feel comfortable. If you are participating
with the community and incorporate the Flowology
Mindset(tm) in your practice, you will fit right into community
events, regardless of what classes you may or may not have taken.

The best way to meet community members outside of classes is
to attend some of the Bay Area
practices.

When GlitterGirl established the Temple of Poi in 2003, it was
because she longed to play with people who were accepting and
less driven by ego. This was a tremendous factor in developing
the tenants of the Flowology
Mindset(TM) which invites all students to leave their judgment
behind -- of themselves as well of others. Rather than focusing
on "good" and "bad", Temple of Poi artists
focus on their own progress which dramatically reduces
the potential for judging other artists.
